Aurora DT190 Dual Power Angled Display 8 Digit Desktop Calculator Order Now

The 5-star rating is for the calculator itself, but NOT the service.

I used to have a no-brand pocket size calculator which keeps moving around and has some rubber hard-to-press buttons. So this mini-desktop calculator is a BIG difference. 1. It won't move around when you're using it; 2. It is a nice size; 3. The buttons are easy to press; 4. It is cheap but not cheaply made.

The price was also great. This is the cheapest calculator I can find in this size. However it took Amazon 1.5 months to ship it to me! They stated that it is a special order and they put a 1.5 month range 'generous' shipping period. And then they really shipped when it was almost the LAST DAY of their estimate shipping period! I had to be sooooo patient. And since I never heard from Amazon after I placed the order, I did email & ask if they were really going to ship me the item when the last estimate shipping day was approaching.

So if you want this calculator in a hurry, don't order it when you see the word 'will ship in 1-2 months' or 'special order' from Amazon. They just won't ship you the item until the estimate deadline is arriving! Get more detail about Aurora DT190 Dual Power Angled Display 8 Digit Desktop Calculator.

Low Price 50g Graphing Calculator, 12-Digit Pixel Display

Too Frustrating, Horrible Documentation, Not Recommended

I am an engineer and purchased this calculator (based on amazon reviews) for graduate engineering courses. Several weeks into classes (many hours trying to figure out the functions) it was too difficult to understand quickly and I abandoned it for the semester. I used an hp calculator in undergrad engineering but the complicated new menu layout and the horrible documentation make an awful combination.

I have now spent more 40 hours trying to figure this calculator out and still consider myself confused. I find the examples in the manual poorly written and poorly indexed. Even basic functions are too complicated. Many examples just don't work. For entering a 3x3 matrix I followed the example. There are actually two steps missing which you have to guess and find yourself. Someone should thoroughly test these first.

After feeling I was deceived I went back and looked at the other hp50 amazon reviews carefully. In 20 of the 5 star reviews the reviewer only reviewed the hp50 product which now makes me suspicious. In addition, 15 other excellent reviews are from foreign countries in such simplistic and incorrect english that I wonder if they really saw, used, learned, or tried to program the hp50.

Even re-reading many of the other 4 and 5 star reviews that I think are genuine I noticed a lot of "however..." comments.

Before you buy here are some of my comments. Many are mentioned in other reviews but I give them here to justify my review number.

- Documentation is horrible (as mentioned in many other good and bad reviews)
-Way too frustrating to learn how to use the product
- Many functions are two strokes (shift+function) (like x2)
-888 page manual (4" thick), colossal waste of paper, hardly any writing on each page
- Because the PDF manual is so big it is difficult to navigate
-Index alone is 25 pages, could be on 6-7 pages, too much flipping pages to find things
- ENTER key is now bottom right of calculator (further to travel to enter data)
-I don't like the heavy leather case: clumsy and weighs almost as much as the hp50
-Its a nice case for opera glasses, but for a calculator it should be light and easy/fast to remove (its not)
- Case with calculator inside approaches 2 inches thick (is that necessary?)
- It has a weird magnetic case button that doesn't seal on the first try, you have to push it around until the magnet connects properly every time you close it
- Navigation up,down, right, left buttons are hard to push, slow, and have a loud click
- Battery cover comes off when removing calculator from case, poorly made in China

On the positive side the unit itself seems sturdy not unlike my original hp. Keys are relatively solid. I haven't experienced any mistaken or extra keystrokes as others have, but it is still new. Screen seems fine.

I'm stuck with it (almost 3 months so far) so maybe after another 3 months I'll start to change my mind.

In summary, if you want to own a calculator for 3-6 months and still have no idea how it works, and if you like feeling stupid and frustrated, this is the calculator for you. You will be guessing how functions work and wasting a lot of time.

I equate the experience to learning a completely new programming language by myself with no help from anyone and little documentation. This should not be from HP.

It appears many satisfied hp50 users are people who already own the hp48 (which i did not), and with years of experience with that product the learning curve might be fine.

Save yourself the headache and carefully read the 5star/4star reviews. You will see that many have a "however..." section talking about the bad points. I wish i would have read them more carefully before I bought.

The product is too frustrating. Not recommended.

Save HP HP48GX RPN Expandable Graphic Calculator

I have owned top of the line graphing and scientific calculators from TI, HP, Casio, Sharp, etc. Back when I was a student, TI's were very cheaply made and often broke quite easily amd similar HP products lasted almost forever. This machine, the HP48GX (graphing and expandable), continues that HP tradition and is definitely put together very well. The HP48GX also includes the full and very extensive library of solutions from various branches of Physics and Engineering, etc. The pros and cons as I see it are:

PROS:

1) The Hp48GX has all the standard regular features plus CAS (Computer Algebra System) features that we have come to expect on such a machine, plus many nice very detailed and topic as well as course specific APPS that are already preloaded or can be added in electronically and quite simply from the HP or HPcalc or other websites.

2) It even works quite naturally with complex number solutions of equations (it can be switched from a real to a complex operating mode and even back again as desired). This machine is so versatile however that it will even evaluate symbolic matrices and it even evaluate the physical units of extremely complex equations as well as its numerical answer(s) (see more discusssion on this topic below).

3) This machine itself is relatively slow compared to the HP50g for example, but still comes with a graphical interface and resultant plotting system. The resultant plots are high quality and are very intuitive for the learning process.

4) It has a nice old style rectangular body design (similar to the Casio FX-2.0 or FX-2.0Plus) that sits very nicely both on a desk or a table as well as in your hand.

5) It has a large on-board main memory (by 1992 standards) that can be readily expanded and that is enough for tackling some memory intensive problems.

6) Although it is called a calculator, it is really a small, handheld computer system which can tackle problems from the most simple to ones with quite complex features.

7) The famous RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) operating system is available to the user.

8) The complete set of the predicted units of the solution of a complicated equation (or set of equations) can be determined independently of and simultaneously with its numerical answer(s). This is a feature that I do not know of on any other calculator system (except the later HP49 and HP50 series).

9) As on all such HP RPN models, a very fine self-test system is available to make sure your machine is fully functional all the time and a reliable clock (with seconds) is also continuously available.

CONS:

1) Some functions that you would readily expect to be available with a single key press require instead at least two key presses, but usually with only a single shift key press first.

2) The learning curve is quite steep, although very well worth the considerable effort, but this will heavily deter some good students from learning the RPN skills that can be effectively used for your entire lifetime once they are successfully mastered.

Discount FX 115MS+ Scientific Calculator, Solar/Battery, 10 Digit, Protective Case (CSOFX115MSPLUS) Category: Scientific Financial and Graphing Calculators

For many years, I used a Casio Scientific that had no battery. It meant that I had to be sure that there was some light (not much at that) in order to use it. It was stolen and I've been trying to replace it. This models description didn't indicate that it had or needed a battery so I bought it. It has a battery and indications from the (enclosed) directions seem to indicate that is required and must be replaced when it goes dead. there is little more irritating to me than having to find a special battery for something for many reasons. That, and the awkward "case" are the only faults I find with it but they are enough so that I find myself willing to give it away soon (before the battery ages or the case gets lost). I should point out that the calculator depicted FX1115MSPLUS doesen't have the BIG round button mine has and mine doesn't call itself ...PLUS. the one in the picture might be the one I ordered but didn't get. ??? I sure hope someone reads this... .Get more detail about FX 115MS+ Scientific Calculator, Solar/Battery, 10 Digit, Protective Case (CSOFX115MSPLUS) Category: Scientific Financial and Graphing Calculators.

Buying HP 40gs Graphing Calculator (F2225AA)

FINALLY - a graphing calculator for the 21st century, and the price is right! I never thought that word 'intuitive' could be applicable to an HP grapher but the 40GS is intuitive - user friendly. And unlike the TI's, it's not built like a kids' toy and the screen is clean and readable.

Most HP graphers assume that you're an engineer and so you're smart enough to figure out how to use the calculator without any help. The 50G is an incredibly powerful little machine but it is tough to figure out and there is no good documentation to help unless you want to print out the 800+ page PDF file, which goes into more detail than you'll ever need. Not so the 40GS - unless you really need all the high end features of the 50g, buy the 40GS for half the price and you'll be very pleased.

I have used just about every grapher out there - TI83,84,86,89, several HP's including the 50G. Since I don't need everything the 50G supports, I decided to try the 40GS after reading some reviews here on Amazon and seeing that it's reasonably priced, and I am very satisfied - won't be using anything else from now on. Even programming the 40GS is a snap - you actually have a little IDE for developing programs, and you don't need to use RPL.

Order Texas Instruments TI-92 Plus Graphing Calculator

This is a great calculator for up and coming engineers and related degrees. The 92 plus is bulky, almost looks like a small portable computer. Most professors don't allow it on test, because of that, but for higher levels of mathematics such as statics an engineering analysis it does the job that I need done. Be aware though that this calculator is discontnued by TI and replaced by the Voyager 200 series, so don't expect help if something goes wrong.Get more detail about Texas Instruments TI-92 Plus Graphing Calculator.

Shop For Kensington 19-Key External Pocket Keypad and Calculator (33059)

This keypad is reasonably compact and coordinates well with silver laptops. The keys have good tactile feel and feedback. There is a raised dot on the 5 key to ensure the "home" position for data entry. The keypad works as a simple calculator when disconnected from a computer. This is a critical accessory for spreadsheet users, including teachers using a spreadsheet for gradebook entries.

Contrary to the experience of another reviewer, I have found this model to work just fine with all my Macintosh computers and laptops running OSX 10.2 through 10.4 and Excel 98 and 2004. (I will not use Excel 2008 until it is restored to more than 50% of the function of 2004). It requires no driver installation on a Macintosh.

I would have given this accessory a 5-star rating save for one annoying problem. When using this with a Mac laptop, if you leave the keypad attached to the computer and put the laptop to sleep by closing the cover, the keypad annoyingly fills the current Excel cell with a long string of a single digit repeating rapidly. The fix for this is to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in, then delete the many (hundreds sometimes) false digits. The keypad then works fine thereafter...unless you put the computer to sleep again.

So a good product in my opinion, just not perfect. rossGet more detail about Kensington 19-Key External Pocket Keypad and Calculator (33059).

Casio MS-80TV Mini Desktop Calculator Top Quality

Nice big display. Good sized keys with a dimple on the 5 for 10-key computation. Sits securely on the table on little rubber feet. These things last forever, require very little light to operate and you NEVER have to replace batteries! You can literally pull these things out of a box where they have been stored for YEARS and power them right up as long as you're in a lit room. I've done it! I have these stashed all over the place: office, bedside, warehouse, glove compartment etc. They have basic memory features, figure tax rates (+,-) and calculates percentages. They are adequate for most of your average daily computing needs, will last forever and will never require new batteries. Texas Instruments TI-81 Graphing Calculator Best Quality

You get what you pay for here. I am a cheap college student, and I pay for a cheap calculator. It works wonderfully, but the only thing that is inconvenient for me is the memory this little thing has. If I want to look back to the last equation I put in, it doesn't remember it, unlike new calculators. But, hey, I am totally satisfied because I only needed it for one semester. It does a lot more than my little casio calculator too. To my knowledge it has the functions as a newer one that typical people might use(of course there are sweet programs from the new ones, but most don't use those functions anyway). It works well, especially for the price I paid. :)Get more detail about Texas Instruments TI-81 Graphing Calculator.

Casio fx-9860G Slim Graphing Calculator Order Now

I have owned top of the line graphing and scientific calculators from TI, HP, Casio, Sharp, etc. This machine, the Casio FX-9860g Slim version, continues the Casio quality tradition and is definitely put together very well. It is also a very good improvement over its predecessor, the Casio FX-9860g, with a very fine pocketable clamshell portable design with a much improved keyboard layout except for the location of the Navigation keypad itself, etc. At $69.99 right now from one of the quality suppliers in NJ on the Amazon website, it is indeed a very great deal!

The pros and cons as I see it are:

PROS:

1) It has all the standard features that we have come to expect on such a machine, plus the inclusion of an electronic OS upgrade capability from the Casio educational website. This is done using a USB interface with a PC computer and is also quite fast and easy to set up. The current OS production version is 1.10, but it can be upgraded to the OS version 2.0 (which is almost entirely compatible with the current system hardware) at Casio's educational website.

2) The machine itself is quite fast with a nice graphical interface and resultant plotting system. The resultant plots are high quality and with the many added features available for enhancement are very intuitive for the learning process.

3) It has a nice and quite modern, folding clamshell body design that sits very nicely both on a desk or a table as well as in your hand. It even has two feet for great stability that are constructed on the bottom at the back of the very well made unit.

4) It has a very large amount of onboard main memory, plus additional Flash memory for tackling quite memory intensive problems.

5) Although it is called a calculator, it is really a small and very fast handheld computer system which can tackle problems from the most simple to almost the most complex.

6) It has a very useful user interface system with multiple icons. The calculator functions are all controlled using an Algebraic Operating System (AOS).

7) It has a very high quality backlight system that makes the display screen much easier to read at very low, prevailing light levels.

8) It also has a very fine stored Help system with both syntax and an onboard Manual of Explanations for every command in the FX-9860 System Catalog. Both the Help function and the System Catalog function are available at the touch of a key (or a shifted key for the System Catalog).

CONS:

1) Some functions that you would readily expect to be available with a single key press on the main keyboard (such as the common hyperbolic functions for example) require instead multiple key presses (hyperbolics are embedded in the OPTN menu softkeys which is much more inconvenient), but usually with only a single shift key press first.

2) This machine is limited to graphing functions in two-dimensions (2-D) and NOT in 3-D as can be performed on the Casio Classpad330 (or the HP50g or the TI-89 Titanium or on the TI-89 or on the TI Voyage 200).

3) There is no CAS (Computer Algebra System) at all which these days is a very BIG limitation. Casio CAS systems are now only available on the Classpad 330 pen-based system or on the older FX-2.0Plus which is much harder to find at all or even at a good price these days, since it was first introduced about 2000.

4) The FX-9860g Slim does not require a backup coin cell battery, but is powered only by two AAA batteries for over 150 hrs with no backlight and for 50 hrs with the backlight on continuously. This is a significant battery life improvement over the comparable HP and TI models.

5) The navigation keypad is located on the bottom left of the front face of the keyboard. This is just fine for left-handers, but for primarily right handed individuals, it should be located on the right hand bottom side in my opinion for much easier and far more natural key stroke motions.

Low Price Texas Intruments TI-1706SV Handheld Pocket Calculator

I once had a TI "pocket" calculator that was similar to the one pictured in this discription. It was small, compact, easy to use. Functionally, it is the same and with its larger size, actually easier to use (somewhat larger buttons). Still, it was not what I expected.Get more detail about Texas Intruments TI-1706SV Handheld Pocket Calculator.

This cheap calculator is my beloved. All my classmates in high school had Casios, and I could never understand why! This calculator is so simple to use, has quite an array of useful and extra capabilities, and I never even needed to read the manual! Mine is still alive and kicking after more than 7 years.

Notice that some people said the calculator crashed often, this sometimes happens because the batteries it comes with is used or old or something, it happened to me too, but after you change the batteries this is a forever kind of calculator.Get more detail about HP HP30S Scientific Calculator with Multi-Colored Faceplates.

Discount Texas Instruments TI503SV Calculator

While my primary calculator is my TI-89 (a high-level graphing calculator), there are times when the four function calculator comes in handy. When it comes to tutoring elementary students, performing a simple calculation using one of the four functions, or occasions where the TI-89's AAA batteries have died, nothing beats the TI-503SV. I've had this calculator for many years and have never had a problem with it.

The size of the calculator is a definite plus. It fits nicely in a shirt pocket without creating a bulge. It also is the right size for a purse--I bought one for my grandmother, who carries it her purse to calculate tips at restaurants.

Ease of use is a definite plus with this machine. The numbers are crisp and large unlike many other pocket-sized four function calculators I've encountered over the years. All four basic operations plus square roots can be performed using this machine. There is also a memory function.

My favorite feature of this calculator is that it is battery-powered, not solar powered. In rooms where lighting is less than ideal the calculator will still work fine. To save battery life, Texas Instruments included a handy "off" button; the calculator will also shut off after a period of inactivity.

I recommend this calculator for everyone--the convenience, ease of use, low price, and compact design make it ideal for all.Get more detail about Texas Instruments TI503SV Calculator.

Purchase Zelco Electronic Bookmark Dictionary II

This product is better used as a bookmark only. As a dictionary the overall design and content leave a lot to be desired. As noted by other reviewers, the keyboard is too flexible where it needs to be rigid. The keys are not user friendly; very often duplicating a letter when it was touched but once. I, like others, have found the dictionary seriously flawed; not enough content, very frustrating considering the time it takes to input an entry. Further, I don't need a calculator or clock either. I suggest consideration of a different product, e.g., the SHARP E550.Get more detail about Zelco Electronic Bookmark Dictionary II.

HP 17BII Financial Calculator This instant

I bought this calculator on the basis of good review here.
True, most of the good things mentioned in reviews here are indeed true but I found out one major flaw in the "algebra mode"
for this calculator.

In the past, I have avoided HP calculators becuase HP insists on RPN. So I was happy to have an HP calculator with both algebra and RPN until I found out about "Algebra mode" in this calculator.

In other algebra calculators, it is clear that the following is true:
3 + 4 * 5 = 23

But HP 18 gives me the following result:
3 + 4 * 5 = 35
In other words, it is not algebra, in the sense that is taught in the school.

Royal Machines XE36 Calculator with 12 Digit Display, Extra Large Display, Solar and Battery Power Immediately

I bought this calculator for my wife because she is legally blind so she needs something that she can read.
This calculater has huge numerals yet the unit folds in half so that it fits nicely in her purse and is no larger than a makeup compact.

The best thing about this calculator is that it operates at ANY angle of opening. Most folding calculators I have looked at only work when fully opened so they are twice the size when being operated. This one operates at any angle so she can put it in the upper area of the shopping cart with the screen area at a 90-110 degree angle and it works nicely. It has a 12 digit display screen so you can use it for large calculations and has most scientific functions which makes it great for school.

Because it folds in half, there is no danger of damage to the display screen when it is in pocket or purse from keys or change bumping into the screen.
Last, but not least, it has a solar panel to drive it when in the sun. This will extend the life of the battery many times its normal life if you use it a lot outdoors or near a sunny window. Graphing Calculator Decide Now

I have an HP 50g too, as some of the other reviewers do. I've used my 50g for 2 years and am still trying to master how to use it (Literally I started using a calculator in general 2 years ago, when I first came to the US). Since this is not a review for the 50g, I don't write much about it, but it is really hard to "get used to." I use the RPN mode and usually calculate problems faster than users with a TI-89 or other calculators using the algebraic mode.

The ClassPad is simply amazing. The advantage is already well-discussed, the intuitive accessibility/usability. The ClassPad will let you do what you want to do, and that's the POINT. I don't know how many millions of times I have looked up what I want to do in the 900-page poorly written pdf manual of my HP 50g. Sometimes I find the solution, but that's quite rare. Until the day I got the ClassPad, I often opened up MATLAB and Maple to solve what I couldn't solve with the 50g (How frustrating!).

In a nutshell,
ClassPad 330 = Maple + Excel + Windows (or Mac) with a superior CPU and higher contrast display

Although I write bad things about my 50g, I really love that. Using the right thing for the right use is the best practice.Get more detail about Graphing Calculator.

Sharp EL-738C 10-Digit Financial Calculator Right now

I haven't really explored my calculator since buying it a year ago. I'm a college student in BA. I find the time value of money calculations very simple. The Stat functions are clean enough. I used to use an RPN calculator, and I miss doing it that way instead of brackets. I'd prefer to see my intermediate answers instead of the formula entered.

The calculator comes with a fold-over vinyl cover. I found that looked cheap and got in the way. I pulled the cover off and use it to carry index cards. The calculator bounces around loose in my briefcase or pocket and can take it. It's been stepped on (with socks) and ignored it. The glass display window doesn't pick up scratches. It's a lot more elegant looking without the cheap vinyl cover, and has no-slip feet behind the glued-on cover.

Several reviews are unhappy with the battery. Mine is still good after more than a year.

The keystrokes to set various settings are non-obvious. If you lose your manual you can download another. Things like setting it to a floating decimal need the book (why would the default be fixed??)Get more detail about Sharp EL-738C 10-Digit Financial Calculator.

Lowest Price Casio FX-260SOLAR Black 10 Digit Scientific Calculator, 3 1, 8" x 6 3, 8" x 1, 2" (CSOFX260SOLAR) Category: Scientific Calculators

I have had one of these for over 5 years and it has survived riding in the bottom of bookbags and back pockets. Includes most scientific functions and there are no batteries to die or corrode. The solar cell powers the unit in most lighting conditions. I especially like the way it handles fractions and Deg/Hour, Min, and sec. This one will handle most jobs from checkbooks to pre-calc where you don't need graphing capabilities.Get more detail about Casio FX-260SOLAR Black 10 Digit Scientific Calculator, 3 1, 8" x 6 3, 8" x 1, 2" (CSOFX260SOLAR) Category: Scientific Calculators.
