Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator Buy Now

I took a finance class and was forced to purchase a financial calculator. The BA-II was recommended, but students could opt for the BA-II Plus if they wanted to. I'm *very* happy that I did -- not only are the additional functions useful, but the look and finish of the calculator makes it much more enjoyable to use. It seems like a small thing -- I mean, who cares what a *calculator* looks like -- but having silver, easy to read buttons and an overall silver case makes you feel like you're using a sophisticated machine, not just a plastic calculator.

As for the functionality, there are a handful of additional functions on the Plus, such as IRR and other cash flow oriented calculations. These aren't used as much as the standard N,I,PV,PMT,FV set of keys, but when you need them they're very handy to have on hand. Rather than a plastic hardcase, this calculator also comes in a slipcase.

My only complaint is simply that I'm still used to "regular" calculator things like order of operations, and the fact that resetting the calculator also resets what I would assume are "global" settings that should stick. But that's a complaint of all financial calculators, and reflects more on my use than the calculator.

The kicker is that this calculator is only $5 more than the BA-II. For $5, just the build quality is enough to justify the extra cost. The features are a bonus at that point.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

Lowest Price Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator

I bought this product a few months ago to use in my studying for the CFA exam. I'd previously used the BA-35 Solar, which I loved for it's simplicity. Unfortunately, the BA-35 Solar doesn't do some of the more advanced functions such as IRR, so I traded up. This calculator is just as easy to use with tons more functionality.

Also, my initial order was lost in the mail by the USPS. I expected a hassle, but after days trying to figure things out through the postal service, I called Amazon and they apologized (even though it wasn't their fault) and immediately sent a replacement free of charge. I couldn't have been happier.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I haven't found any drawbacks of this calculator so far. I like that there is no need to have a screwdriver to change a battery during CFA exam. It is rather easy to use and understand the logics of entering the data for TMV calculations. Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

i use it for my accounting class, but 8/10 students use different type of calculator in class so does the professor, but then the professor told me that this calculator is neat (i thought so too, thats why i bought it, and you can not get it cheaper anywhere else for new, love the sliver look) and my professor also use it as well (he got 2 calculators), over all this calculator is easy to use, just like the other brand (almost same button), and the manual is not that helpful when calculate the PV,FV,Annuity, but i got help from my professor. Still after you learn how to use it and you will love it. Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

Don't get me wrong, this one is fine, but the cheaper one has a much nicer hard cover. This one has a thin sleeve for protection and it isn't very effective. The cheaper model has a hard plastic cover that could probably deflect gamma rays. OK, maybe slow down a BB.

This one does look good - makes everyone think you know how to use it...Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

Buying Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator

After using the HP 12c (and the 12c 25th Anniv edition), this calculator was insanely frustrating to use. The keys didn't always respond, even with the "click" which requires me to keep a vigilant eye on the display when inputting numbers (this is most common in repeating digits, such as 10,000 which will frequently drop a zero or two). Also, the lack of an RPN option is a glaring flaw considering the prevalence of the 12c over the past 25 years.

On the plus side, the one-key delete is a huge plus, though I suppose it's a requirement given the spotty input. And it does its job - and fast - it's about 50% faster than the 12c 25th Anniv edition (and about 15 times faster than the '81 model), but the difference between modern calculators is fairly negligible, looking at the difference of a split second for difficult interest calculations or such.

Other than that, it does everything that a 12c or other financial calculator can, with one exception. It can do trig and a handful of other non-financial functions. Maybe there's a reason for this, but I don't see it.

Unfortunately, the 12c is not allowed in SOA exams. If they were, you can bet I'd sell this one ASAP.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I used to use casio's calculator. Not only the finance one but also the scientific one. To use casio's calculator is really easy that you would know how to use it even without guide book. However, the Taxas one is the one could be used in CFA exam. Not that easy to understand how to use as casio but not that difficult as I image. Once you got it's logic, you will know how to count on it.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

This is an excellent calculater. Comparing it with the professional edition of the equivalent HP financial calculator, I have to say that this is way better.

It is so much more user friendly. You don't have to remeber the key combinations you have to enter (with no visual feedback as in HP) - it has a scrolling input method. You can hit down arrows and scroll across variables that you want to store some values in.

Very nice calculator.

Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator Review

This calculator is amazing at financial calculations with its ability to calculate annuities and convert from interest rates to discount rates very quickly. The one thing I have against it is that as a normal calculator it's not very effective. It doesn't flash when you press a button so it's hard to tell if you actually hit the button or not, also it doesn't seem to register quick number typing so some times I need to go back and press it again. It runs with a certain "chain rule" calculation order but you can change it back to normal. Either way you need to use a lot of parentheses. (Ex: 5*(1+0.6)^12 needs to be written like (5)*((1+0.6))^12) Overall, I keep a regular scientific next to this one so I can switch between calculations, but it is a pain to have 2 calculators in general.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I kinda feel like a nerd using this one in class because everyone else has the "unprofessional" one. Who do I think I am? It works just like the cheaper version, just looks a little different. So if you are one of those elitist bastards who enjoys the attention when you whip out your iphone in a room full of razr phones then this is the calculator for you. Otherwise, just get the plain ol' BA II plus. The professional won't do your homework for you or anything like that. This is a great financial calculator, and a lot of the value comes from the user manual that provides a lot of typical scenarios. However, for example, when they talk about selling a leased asset, they talk about a percentage discount, but there's no explanation of the why of the discount. Therefore, this calculator PLUS a good second year, financial accounting text would be a super great combination.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

great looks and features, most of which I havn't used yet (MBA student)...tough, TI products last forever. I still have a TI 82 that I bought 13 yrs ago. one criticism, the keys are somewhat hard to push down , so moving quickly can be an issue when working long balance sheets. You have to really make sure you push down on them.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I needed a financial calc but wasn't sure which to get. I knew of the HP series but found them archaically obsolete with so many ridiculous keypresses you have to basically memorize through route repitition and they are quite slow. I didn't want that. I wanted to use modern technology to assist me. In this case, the BA2+ has an intuitive interface with the labels for keypresses appearing on the screen itself and scroll buttons to make your way through worksheets. This allows for easy entry without having to memorize anything. Finance can be difficult enough -- no need to make life harder for yourself.

The functions are great, with everything you need. I enjoy the algebraic entry mode such as using stacked parenthesis order of operation. Coming from a TI-89, this is a very natural way of doing mathematics for me.

Only negative I find is sometimes pressing a key rapidly doesn't register. I can't find any regular pattern to this so am unable to offer an explanation. Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

The calculator has a high quality finish, and a good, solid feel. The buttons are not as "light" as general calculators, but has a positive click when pressed, very similar to the HP10BII. Overall, this product is a great tool for anyone taking finance, accounting or economics. However it can be rather confusing to use since there are so many functions. The user must be careful that each entry is inputted correctly as the calculator will provide an answer but potentially the wrong one. I think the book it comes with could be a little more explanatory with the proper settings for each function. Because of the multiple measures this calculator does, the user must change the settings several times. Overall, it is a good product but very confusing...Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I have used this financial calculator for about two weeks now. Compared to the HP one that my friend has, I believe this one is definitely superior. Overall, it is easier to manipulate with this one. One big advantage the TI has over the HP is when computing combinations and permutations: for the TI the fast keys are in place, whereas with an HP you would need to run the formulas manually which is extremely time-consuming. I give this one two thumbs up for people taking the CFA exams.
However, one drawback I want to mention is the fact that sometimes the pressed buttons aren't entered; you have to plug in the numbers and symbols pretty slowly in order to be 100% sure that all of those are entered in. I would need a little more practice with the calculator to use it with a little more speed.Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

Buying this calculator I was excited, but it did nothing for me and now I'm glad to say I'm through with it. Lots of things are hard-wired into the system that don't make any sense: irregular "time-savers" that just cause confusion, buttons for things that you don't need a "whole button" for, options put in weird submenus that are hard to get to, other options that you want but don't have. Information in the worksheets is spread out all over the place and the ways to enter it vary unpredictably.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but the main complaint I have it with the "chain" and the "AOS" systems. They are both error prone unless you're doing something simple like adding 2 plus 2, because you have way of going back over your long painstaking calculation because you can't look back over your entry string afterwards to make sure you entered it in correctly. So you have to start all over.

My sense about this calculator is that it was probably designed on the cheap to get you to pay extra for the same calculator as the BA II Plus. If you need something for an exam save your money and get something cheaper, I recommend a 2-line scientific calculator like the 30X IIS (solar-powered) or IIB (battery-powered) are under 20 dollars. Or maybe you just really want those business worksheets but I tried them and don't like them. You should do that stuff on a laptop, learn how to write your own programs and get exactly what you want.

For more money you can get a graphing calculator like the TI-89 which is kind of large and heavy but very powerful and well-designed, perfect for college. Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I am taking the CFA exam next June and needed to get a professional calculator. I read the reviews for both the TI and the HP.. While there seemed to be some concern for ease of use of the TI, the HP seemed too complicated to learn. I ultimately went with the recommendation of the review course which suggested the TI. The price was excellent and I have not been disappointed with the decision!!! There are some neat features on the TI that have been fun to learn... Oh, and check out the free video tutorials you can find by going to TI's website. Good times! - SteveGet more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.

I have two previous BA calculators from TI and this one is impressive in appearance and touch. Regrettably, the first function I tried failed.
The calc. has a default date value of 12-31-1990 although you can enter your own dates for number-of-days computations. The problem is that the calculator accepts the year value as two digits as in 08 and not 2008. The consequence is that I can't calculate the number of days prior to 2000 (00). How about long term bonds? The user guide and calculator delivers ERROR 6 when I attempt a four digit year. Perhaps someone knows a work around but the manual and calculator are no help discovering it. Why doesn't TI allow date inputs like Hewlett Packard: 01.011950?Get more detail about Texas Instruments BA II Plus Professional Financial Calculator.
